OpenAudio began by assisting Hollywood in developing digital cinema standards (DCI, Digital Cinema System Specifications), particularly in the area of immersive audio (SMPTE).

OpenAudio hold 54 patents related to digital cinema standards, 34 patents related to immersive audio standards, and 33 patents related to amplifiers for multi-room streaming. As a result, the company became the owner of HOLOSOUND, one of the world's top three immersive audio technologies.

The other two are ATMOS from Dolby and DTS:X from DTS.
